Animal Nutritional Counseling

Keep your pet healthy for years to come

When it comes right down to it, what your pet eats every day has a huge impact on their overall health. With varying qualities of pet food out there, both online and in Miami area stores, the options can get a little overwhelming. Our veterinarian and staff can offer great advice on the best types of food, feeding schedules and supplements to keep your pet healthy for years to come.

Some diet formula is specially made for specific health concerns. Whether your pet needs a low-fat diet for pancreatitis, a food properly formulated for their life stage, or simply the best quality food for your budget, we can help.

One of the most common feeding-related problems we see in pets is related to weight. As with humans, those extra pounds on our pet can have adverse health effects, such as difficulties breathing or walking. Due to their relatively smaller size, just a couple of pounds can be difficult on your pet’s joints. If you struggle to keep your pet’s weight down, we often suggest switching from a free-feeding bowl to specific meal times. That way, you can more carefully monitor how much they’re eating every day. This has the added benefit of helping you keep track of any changes to your pet’s appetite that may signal a health problem early on. Diet foods that are lower-calorie can help maintain a healthy weight as well. We have a few brands that we recommend for overweight pets.

We’re happy to work with you for as long as you need us

Finding the best formula for your pet It’s also possible for your pet to struggle with food allergies. If an animal has skin conditions, problems with elimination or other common signs of an allergy, we may suggest switching them to a low-allergen food. It may take a few tries to find the best formula for your pet, but we’re happy to work with you for as long as you need us. You can always contact our clinic with questions about your pet’s food.
